Orleans, France

Orleans (Centre) Pop: 120,000

Somewhat less than a 100 miles southwest of Paris on the Loire River, Orleans was established by an influential Celtic tribe and later became a Roman outpost.

Attila the Hun made a failed effort to pillage the city in 451 A.D. Orleans, of course, was where Joan d'Arc led French troops against English and Burgundy armies that had besieged and isolated the city.
