Montelimar
(Rhone-Alpes)
Pop: 35,000
Montelimar's site in southern France, close by the
convergence of the Roubion and Rhone rivers, has been
occupied since the Celtic era and was re-built during the
period of Roman domination.
Highly regarded as the nougat capital of the world by
some sources, Montelimar offers two variants, brown and
white.
White nougat is soft and derives from beaten egg whites,
whereas the brown is firm, consisting of caramelized sugar.
Nougats aside, Montelimar is primarily an agricultural
commune with some light industry.
Sweeten your visit with: the Tour de Narbonne-14th century
fortress, the Chateau des Papes (now a prison), any nougat
factory. |
