Lloret de Mar, Spain

An everything-into-the-Spanish-tortilla kind of centuries-old town with seaside tourists swelling the streets in the finer months, Lloret de Mar is an upbeat, colorful spot on the Costa Brava to enjoy some of the best things the area has to offer.

The night life really rocks in Lloret de Mar, especially along the Avinguda Just Marles.

Take time to stroll in the Jardins de Santa Clotilde with views over the Mediterranean that will melt your blood into olive oil with each tick down of the sun.

The new Museo del Mar, on the grand promenade, Can Gorriga, is a good place to learn about the effects of the Civil War on the area and be sure and see Santa Roma, a Gothic style church in the middle of the town of many colors.

For beach days, head to the less visited coves of Cala Santa Christina and Cala Treumal.

Or, for those who prefer to swim sans traje de bano, try the Cala Boadello.

And, if the rough sandy beaches and partying down begins to take its toll on you, Barcelona is only a short 75 km away.
