Sited at the convergence of the Touques and Orbiquet rivers, Lisieux experience a re-birth after the majority of the commune was destroyed in 1944.

St. Therese, canonized in 1925, is buried in Lisieux and spent much of her childhood there. Pilgrimages are still made to her final resting site in the Basilica of St. Therese.
