County Laois lies in the center of Ireland and is an excellent county to visit if you like to fish or just go walking in the Slieve Blooms. 

The Abbeyleix Heritage Centre is an attraction where you can see what the factory's interior looked like in the early 1900's.

The small fee to provide for upkeep and maintenance of their historical collection is well worth the tour.

Although hotels in Laois are scarce in relationship to other counties in Ireland, the trade-off is they are a good bargain.

If you like hedgerows, County Laois is the place for you to go. A recent survey showed, if placed from end to end, the hedgerows would extend for 12,427 km.

For those with less insular tastes, Laois has a good number of round towers and waterfalls as well as an excellent arts centre located in Portlaoise.
