What's On in Lahinch

Lahinch is absolutely a must-see town.

The beautiful beach sweeps past the town and creates waves for surfing. It lends a lovely backdrop to one of the finest golf courses in Europe as well. The locals say the Old Course at Lahinch is Tiger's favorite place to play golf when he comes to Ireland.

There are lots of things to do in town including great restaurants and good Irish pubs.

Lahinch has a hole in the wall (ATM machine) and we'd be suggesting picking up some cash if you'll be needing it for your travels along the coast.

It also has a burger place, so if you're missing your Carl's Jr., lads, this is a good place to stop. It's not going to taste like a Yank burger but it is the closest thing we have.

If you're taking the road back to Ennis, stop at the Famine memorial just out of town on the left side. The Great Famine Memorial located on the north side of the Ennis Road between Lahinch and Ennistymon depicts the plight of Irish children during those years and is the first Irish monument dedicated to those who died during those years.

Clare was hit particularly hard during Tha Shein Ukrosh (the Great Hunger) and recent research is only beginning to explain why these years took so many lives.

It seems potatoes are filled with Vitamin C and when this nutrient was lost from the diet, many of those who were starving to death developed scurvy.

It was a terribly painful way to go.
