Doolin, County Clare
Although you will find local music almost everywhere in Clare (or Ireland for that matter) during the evening, it is often found in Doolin during the day. This beautiful town near the Aran Islands offers a wide choice of pubs. Many of them have restaurants and the food is excellent. One of our favorite pubs in Doolin is McDermott's. The Irish habit is to go out somewhere around half-nine (9:30 p.m.) so you will find a much different pub later than you will earlier. We suggest you try later... at least once. Don't miss the Clare Jam outlet in Doolin. The Irish love their jams and jelly and no one makes it better than Clare Jam. Jam and music... I guess that says it all. When you get your fill of music and sweet things, you can drive to the end of town and take the ferry to the Aran Islands. A nice day trip from Doolin is on the Cliffs of Moher Cruises. Irish Family Names from Doolin: Flanagan, McDermott, Moloney, O'Connor, O'Brien and Shannon.
