Shannon-Erne Waterway
The re-opening of the Shannon-Erne Waterway in 1994 in Co. Cavan, has made cruising possible between the majestic River Shannon and the beautiful expanse of Lough Erne.

Marble Arch Caves
Across the border from Cavan in County Fermanagh, is one of Europe's finest show caves called Marble Arch Caves.

Drumlane Abbey, Co. Cavan
The remains of an early Christian site dating from the 500s. Drumlane Abbey is said to have been established by Saint Mogue, Bishop of Ferns, in Co. Wexford. The Abbey was attacked by the Vikings and in the mid 1100's the Augustinian canons took over the abbey.

Cavan's Belturbet Railway Station
The Station building is an original cut stone Great Northern Railway Station, which served Belturbet from October 1885 until its closure in March 1959.

This is the only station building designed by the architect Mills to be built entirely of cut stone on the GNR system, and one of its very few Grade 1 buildings.

Cavan County Museum
Cavan County Museum was established in 1996 by Cavan County Council to collect, conserve, document and display all aspects of the culture, history and traditions of County Cavan.

Cavan is home to the Shannon Pot, thought to be the source of the River Shannon. The Shannon River was named after Sinnann, the daughter of Lodan.

She was said to have come to the Shannon Pot in search of the "Salmon of Wisdom." She had a bit of a tiff with the locals and was drowned. We're sure this all made some sense at one point in time.
