We recommend spending the first and last nights in Bunratty or a
surrounding town when flying into or out of Shannon Airport.
While not
technically a town or village, Bunratty is one of the most visited
places in Clare.
Before Dromoland Castle was built by the O'Brians,
Bunratty Castle was the home of the ruling lord.
There is a lovely community of things to do built up around the castle.
Today Bunratty is more or less a tourist
attraction (in a good way) and has the original Dirty Nells, the Woolen Mills, Bunratty Castle
and the Bunratty Winery.
The Bunratty Winery is not really a winery but a place where you can
purchase Meade (a honey drink) and Potcheen (white lightning).
Bunratty is a good place to take the family and the B&B's are
excellent.
They also have a Mediaeval Banquet there and we recommend this if you
really want to find yourself apologizing to the missus in the morning.
The best thing about Bunratty is its proximity to Shannon Airport.
