Arras Tours and Attractions, France
Australians will be particularly interested in seeing the Fromelles memorial and you will tour the Loos battlefield, site of the disastrous battle of 1915, and Vimy Ridge where you take a tunnel tour. Canadians will find this of special interest during the 90th anniversary commemorations. Also see sites in and around the pretty city of Arras including (subject to opening) the recently discovered underground hospital and the French National memorial at Lorrette de Notre Dame. A former capital of the country of Artois, Arras is located on the right bank of the Scarpe River. Arras has a different ambience than many French towns due to its spacious arcades and burgher-type residences that lend a Flemish flavor. The famous revolutionary Maximilien Robespierre was born here. |
