Summer and Winter Holidays in Les Gets
At 800 yrs old, this authentic village has charm and character in every corner. The buildings are a pleasing mix of wood and stone all in traditional style, and the village has done much to preserve its history. There are now over 100 shops and restaurants, including many local specialist artisan shops and many great Savoyard restaurants serving the best of local produce. Most of the accommodation in Les Gets is in chalets & small locally run hotels. There's a mix of self catered chalets and catered chalets, with a full range from the more budget end right up to exclusive mountain lodges for the wealthy. The hotels are mostly 2* & 3* and are based in the centre of Les Gets. In summer Les Gets becomes a huge outdoor activity centre. Most famous for its mountain biking, Les Gets has hosted the downhill world championships and attracts dedicated mountain bikers from all over the world. There's 650kms of planned trails, all marked and graded, and served by lifts to get you & your bike to the top of the hill. There's much more though than just world class mountain biking. It's a regular on the Tour de France route, there's an 18 hole golf course with one of the most spectacular backdrops, there's white water rafting, climbing, hiking, horse riding and much more. With the growth of so many new activities with great facilities and instruction to match Les Gets is becoming a favourite destination for family summer activity holidays. By winter Les Gets' skiing is world renowned. Part of the Portes du Soleil ski area, the 650kms of marked runs make this the largest ski area in Europe with no less than 208 lifts. Les Gets' two big strengths are family skiing, with great instruction and facilities for all ages, and skiing for mixed abilities groups. With such a large area, there's ample skiing at all levels making this a favourite ski holiday when you've groups with a variety of skiing abilities within. The ski slopes run right down into the centre of Les Gets, and with 2 bubble lifts, 2 high speed chair lifts and a collection of drag lifts for the beginners there's very easy access to the slopes right from the centre of Les Gets. |
