Peterborough (Northamptonshire) Pop: 175,000

Located less than 100 miles north of London on the commuter line, Peterborough has been jokingly pilloried as a place where, "I changed trains there once."

At one time exclusively a manufacturing town, the city in recent years has diversified, with businesses like Thomas Cook, and created a huge shopping venue.

Peterborough's cathedral is quite noteworthy having been the burial place of two queens, Katherine of Aragon, and Mary, Queen of Scots.

Mary, though, was later disinterred and buried elsewhere.
