Minimum age for renting a car in Nicaragua is 21 years.

Drivers between 21-24 may be subject to a young drivers surcharge.

Travel on roads in Nicaragua at night is not recommended. Signage is sparse and many vehicles, including animal-drawn carts, do not use lights.

Public transportation is overcrowded and unsafe.

Rental cars are the best way to get around Nicaragua but, again, exercise caution when travelling in rural areas.
