Driving a Car in Nicaragua
You will be arrested if you drink and drive or are
involved in an accident that results in serious injury or death.
Unrestricted driving is allowed within Nicaragua only.
Minimum age for renting a car in Nicaragua is 21 years.
Drivers
between 21-24 may be subject to a young drivers surcharge.
Maximum age without charge is 75.
Travel Advisories and Warnings for Nicaragua
Travel on roads in Nicaragua at night is not
recommended. Signage is sparse and many vehicles, including animal-drawn
carts, do not use lights.
Public transportation is overcrowded and unsafe.
Rental
cars are the best way to get around Nicaragua but, again, exercise
caution when travelling in rural areas.
